Blakeford at Green Hills FAQs

Blakeford Senior Life is a nonprofit provider of senior services with 30 years of experience in providing the highest quality services to older adults. Blakeford is governed by a volunteer board of local professionals with expertise in healthcare, finance, and law. We are very proud of the fact that Blakeford earned accreditation by CARF-CCAC. Fewer than 10% of residential and home care organizations have achieved this standard of high quality. We also hold an investment grade credit rating by Fitch.

Blakeford is a Type-A Continuing Care Retirement Community (also known as Life Plan Community) that provides Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing. As needs change, residents and their families rest easy knowing that they will receive higher levels of care and peace of mind when and if it’s needed. This includes 24/7 access to trained medical professionals who are available to assist with healthcare needs, medication management, and personal care.

Blakeford at Green Hills is a lively senior living community focused on promoting an active lifestyle. It offers various amenities like fitness classes, walking trails, and a modern fitness center to help residents maintain physical health. Group activities, including yoga, dance fitness, water aerobics and other classes appeal to a wide range of interests and abilities.

Social interaction is key, with numerous clubs, special events, and group outings. Residents can garden, participate in art classes, onsite and offsite musical performances, book clubs, and educational lectures, all with the goal of ensuring a well-rounded and fulfilling lifestyle.

The financial model of our Life Care Community is that residents pay an Entrance Fee to the community for the lifetime use of their living accommodation and access to services and care. Most residents use the proceeds from the sale of their existing home to pay this deposit. There is also a monthly service fee that covers the costs to operate residents’ homes including utilities, housekeeping, indoor and outdoor maintenance, TV and internet, 24-hour emergency response system.   A generous meal plan, a comprehensive fitness program and many other activities are also included in the monthly fee.

Blakeford offers a flexible Entrance Fee structure designed to accommodate different financial preferences and estate planning needs. Residents can choose from three refund plans: a 50% refund, a 90% refund, or a 0% refund option. The 50% and 90% refund plans ensure a portion of the Entrance Fee is returned to the resident’s estate, providing a sense of security and financial planning for the future. Alternatively, selecting the 0% refund option allows for a discounted Entrance Fee, with the understanding that the refund is amortized over 36 months. This variety of plans allows residents to select the best option based on their financial strategy and priorities.

Although your investment at Blakeford may feel like a real estate transaction, it’s really an investment in the Blakeford Life Care model: Your entrance fee entitles you to access all levels of care at Blakeford throughout the rest of your life at discounted rates. And, since you don’t own any real property at Blakeford, you no longer have to worry about rising property tax rates—it’s all taken care of.

Originally awarded on February 28, 2014, Blakeford at Green Hills achieved accreditation status through CARF-CCAC (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities-Continuing Care Accreditation Commission). Blakeford is now one of fewer than 200 Life Plan Communities in the country to have achieved this designation and, currently, the only accredited provider in the Middle Tennessee area.

For our residents, accreditation demonstrates that Blakeford:

  • Has made a specific commitment to put the needs of our residents at the center of everything we do;
  • Values the input of our residents and is accountable to the community;
  • Is committed to reducing risk, addressing health and safety concerns, respecting cultural and individual preferences, and providing the best possible quality of care;
  • Respects the rights and individuality of our residents.

Indeed, Blakeford is a non-profit organization.  This offers several benefits to residents. One of the primary advantages is the focus on resident welfare over profit margins. Surplus funds are reinvested into improving services, facilities, and amenities, ensuring a high standard of living, rather than being distributed as income to stakeholders. Additionally, non-profit financial models are typically designed to provide affordability and transparency. Residents benefit from a continuum of care, which means that as their needs change over time, they have access to various levels of assistance without having a significant increase in monthly costs or needing to move to a different facility.  Finally, residents at Blakeford are never asked to leave the community based exclusively on their ability to pay monthly fees.  This holistic approach to senior living can provide peace of mind for both residents and their families.

Blakeford recognizes the importance of companionship and the positive impact pets can have on a resident’s well-being. Pets can provide comfort, joy, and emotional support and in most cases, residents are allowed to have pets, although there are guidelines in place to ensure the safety and comfort of all community members.

Blakeford’s meal plan is designed to provide a flexible and convenient approach to managing dining options. Included in the monthly fee, each resident is provided a “budget” to purchase meals at their convenience within any of Blakeford’s dining venues. As residents make a purchase their monthly balance decreases, similar to a prepaid account. This structure empowers residents to decide when and how to utilize their meal allowance across the various dining venues at Blakeford and enjoy meals in their apartment or outside the community without losing a meal in a “use-it-or-lose-it” daily system. Additionally, if the entire monthly budget is not spent, a small portion can be carried over to the following month.

Burton Court at Blakeford provides Assisted Living and Memory Care to residents when they need a higher level of care and can no longer safely live in their Independent Living residence. Assisted Living at Burton Court is designed for those who need help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and medication management, but who do not require the intensive medical care provided in a hospital or nursing home.

Memory Care at Burton Court is tailored for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. This specialized neighborhood provides a safe and secure environment with staff trained to address the unique challenges associated with memory loss, offering structured activities designed to enhance cognitive function and quality of life.

Woodcrest at Blakeford offers skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services with a higher level of medical care for individuals with more serious health issues or for those recovering from surgery or illness. Woodcrest has licensed nurses on-site 24/7 to deliver medical treatments and administer medications.  Rehab-To-Home at Woodcrest offers short-term care for those individuals who need physical and/or occupational therapy in order to return to their prior level of independence.
