As someone who spent time as a caregiver, I know how personal it is. I know how life-changing it can be for everyone involved. All you want is to make sure your family member or loved one is safe and cared for. Because at the heart of family caregiving are relationships.
In a caregiving environment, relationships may be strengthened and, certainly, tested. Each day brings its own moments. You may feel overwhelmed. You may have questions about how to work through different situations in your role. But, most importantly, you want to know that you are doing your best for the relationship.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll take a look at ways to help you maintain positive and effective relationships in the caregiving environment. In our new series, we’ll explore such topics as:
- Learning to be a more skilled caregiver through educational opportunities
- Working within family dynamics to create a better caregiving environment
- Coping with guilt when you don’t have time to do everything
- Knowing when to ask for help
We’ll look at ways each of these topics can impact how caregivers respond to their families, care recipients, and themselves.
